octo turkey


Materials

4mm crochet hook
3.5mm hook
yarn needle
poly fiber fill
worsted weight yellow yarn
worsted weight red yarn
worsted weight brown yarn 
12mm safety eyes

Abbreviations

Sc: single crochet
hdc: half double crochet
inc: increase, two single crochet/two half double crochet in one space
dec: invisible decrease (tutorial in hippo post)
St/sts: stich, stitches

Notes

This pattern uses 2 different crochet hooks, so pay attention to which one you are supposed to be using. This pattern is worked in a continuous round unless otherwise specified. Do not join at the end of each round, use a place marker and count your stitches often.

measurements: 

6 inch circumference

Tentacles 

In yellow using 4mm hook
Ch 6, sl st to form a loop.
*Ch 10, 3 hdc in each st of the chain 10.
Sc into the ch 6 loop. *
Repeat from * until you have reached 8 tentacles. They should curl on their own. Fasten off and leave long tail to sew tentacles to body.

Turkey beak

in yellow w 3.5mm hook
R1: ch 2, in second from hook, sc 4 (4)
R2: (sc1, inc) x2 (6)
R3: sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing. 

turkey gaggle

in red with 3.5mm hook
R1: ch2, in second from hook, sc 6 (6)
R2: (sc 2, inc) x3 (9)
R3-4: sc around (9)
R5: (sc 1, dec) x 3 (6)
R6: sc around (6)
Fasten off, leave long tail for sewing. 


turkey tail

in brown with 4mm hook
R1: ch2, in second from hook, sc 4, ch2, turn (4)
R2: 2 hdc in each st, ch 2, turn. (8)
R3: (2 hdc in the first st, 1 hdc in the next st) repeat across (12)
R4: (2hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 2 sts) repeat across (16)
change to red
R5: (2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 3 sts) repeat across (20)
R6: (2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 4 sts) repeat across (24)
R7: (2 hdc in first st, 1 hdc in next 5 sts) repeat across (28)
change to yellow
r8: sc in first st (5 dc in next st, sc in next 2 sts)  - repeat across ( 9 shells)
fasten off, hide tail. Sew onto back of body.

Turkey body

With 4mm hook in brown
R1: ch 2, in second from hook, sc 6 (6)
R2: inc in each st around (12)
R3: (1sc, 1 inc) x6 (18)
R4: (2sc, 1 inc) x6 (24)
R5: (3sc, 1 inc) x6 (30)
R6-12: sc around (30)
R13: (3sc, 1 dec) x6 (24)
Embroider face; attach safety eyes, beak, and gaggle.
R14: (2sc, 1 dec) x6 (18)
Stuff body; from here add stuffing as needed.
R15: (1sc, 1 dec) x6 (12)
R16: dec around (6)
Fasten off, hide tail. Sew tentacles on
